Pachinko (パチンコ?) wrote:
Pachinko (パチンコ?) is a type of mechanical game originating in Japan and is used as both a form of recreational arcade game and much more frequently as a gambling device, filling a Japanese gambling niche comparable to that of the slot machine in Western gaming. A pachinko machine resembles a vertical pinball machine, but has no flippers and uses a large number of small balls. The player fires balls into the machine, which then cascade down through a dense forest of pins. If the balls go into certain locations, they may be captured and sequences of events may be triggered that result in more balls being released. The object of the game is to capture as many balls as possible. These balls can then be exchanged for prizes. Pachinko machines were originally strictly mechanical, but modern ones have incorporated extensive electronics, becoming similar to video slot machines. Pachinko parlors are widespread in Japan, and they usually also feature a number of slot machines (called pachislo or pachislots); hence, these venues operate and look similar to casinos. Modern pachinko machines are highly customizable, keeping enthusiasts continuously entertained.

Gambling for cash is illegal in Japan. Pachinko balls won from games cannot be exchanged directly for money in the parlor. The balls are exchanged for tokens or prizes, which can be exchanged for cash at a place nominally separate from the parlor.

"Hit the dummies, don't stop till you feel each strike become more precise." Was all a training instructor yelled at her to preform for now, as there was little else going on in the mornings for arriving first at the Academy. She had no reason to stay at home either to wait for opening times, there was little reason otherwise, her father simply a drunkard having gotten back from his last Pachinko (パチンコ?) Game. So here she would stand, fists raised with the two training bokken nearby to strike at the dummy with hand and technique to develop to her own slowly, left-right-left-uppercut. She tried numerous combinations to the dummy and never found a single one she liked to stick with. They all felt unbalanced or out of place to her primarily. Originally the family had owned a dojo itself for sword-techniques but that was a long time ago, ever since Mokuhi's mother had died from two years after the battle with a unknown illness she found her life quite self-maintained up till the point of being 10 years of age, it was probably around that time as well her father had finally hit his limit and gave up. He never could get over the grief of his wifes death, her mother anyway.

Not that it mattered much, she was too young and thus had little reason to grieve for perhaps as much as he did over the years being. But here she was, she would make her life for herself and do it at a early age. She figured, the academy was the best place to start. She didn't quite know exactly what she would be doing either here as she walked through those doors but never better late than early her uncle would preach to her often enough during the rare visits when the talks of how 'grand' her father was till he ran everything into the dirt, money included - just enough to get by for house rent and some days being no food given into the household. It was only the grace of the kind lady next door whom offered them over during the hard times that they found any food to get by often than not by her generosity.

Strike. Strike. Strike...

It had probably been for the better of 30 minutes in her time inside of the room, practicing the simple swings and flow of each punch and upper-cut that she created from mind to deliver upon the dummy in hit for each moment of her limbs drawing back and thrust forward once at a time. She wasn't really sure what her goal was in punching the dummy, she was just doing as she was told otherwise. It wasn't however until a voice rung out that she found a rather peculiar genin lingering around. Originally he was asking her name and what she was good at, that was a good question. She wasn't quite sure what she was doing. "Watabe, Senri." Was his name, as she stood there and pried the gloves from her hands to better flex her fingers from being stiff due to having been curled into fists for so long as she let them relax - bending them and working them to work the stiff feeling from their joints. They had a few words exchanged, then he mentioned "Kenjutsu." As she had asked him if he had any technique or such he could give her pointers on, little did she know at first she was actually receiving a lesson at hand. It was informational and a experience, much more than simply 'Punching the Dummy.' Lifting a wooden weapon in her hands felt more natural and precise to practice along with as well, her father had been good with the Katana and the bokken represented it quite well in some manner. It felt - destined in some way, so she took it up and practiced this strike he had preformed upon the dummy. She hardly noticed that the instructor had come back into the room and was watching as well.

Several Hours...Later...

With enough strikes and focusing of the chakra through her arms, she eventually mastered the technique. Her first 'jutsu' as it were, quite interesting as well as it offered her a chance to better know what she wanted to do perhaps to practice with, it looked like this training sword and her would be sticking together for awhile then. "I wonder what the next day will bring..." She thought as she sat out at her usual spot in the middle of the village, a small and quite location where a bench sat overlooking a canal with a bridge. It wasn't quite as loud, the library was nearby as well and with it being quite late after all the other things going on, she stopped by the Ramen Hut and made her way back home - the home she didn't want to go back to, but should. Along the way, she found a stranger eye-balling her way as she had stopped to open the bag she was given. Baked goods were a favorite of hers, but only when she felt accomplished did she want to spend a bit extra to buy them. She knew she shouldn't, but to her it was a slight night for celebration. As she stopped, he approached and she immediately took notice of the Village Symbol for Kirigakure upon his head-band.

He wasn't from this village it seemed and she had heard bad things about Kirigakure as well from civilians about the village during her walks home and back, news and such usually that was spread by mouth. She didn't know if it was all true, but the man wore bandages and she didn't like the look in his eyes either, taking a moment to properly dismiss her self she had left in a hurry and returned home.

The Five Elemental Chakra Nature Transformations wrote:
There are five elemental natures of chakra which can be transformed, called the Five Elements Nature Transformations (五大性質変化, Godai Seishitsu Henka). These five are also called elements and are not only the origin of the names of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, but also the foundation of all elemental ninjutsu. The five elemental nature transformations are all connected to each other in a circle, each being weaker than one and stronger than another.

These elements allow for elemental ninjutsu to be performed, such as:

Fire (火, Hi) natured chakra allows for Fire Release (火遁, Katon), which is strong against Wind but weak against Water.
Wind (風, Kaze) natured chakra allows for Wind Release (風遁, Fūton), which is strong against Lightning but weak against Fire.
Lightning (雷, Kaminari) natured chakra allows for Lightning Release (雷遁, Raiton), which is strong against Earth but weak against Wind.
Earth (土, Tsuchi) natured chakra allows for Earth Release (土遁, Doton), which is strong against Water but weak against Lightning.
Water (水, Mizu) natured chakra allows for Water Release (水遁, Suiton), which is strong against Fire but weak against Earth.

Basically, this means that if an elemental technique is put against another elemental technique of the same level, but of a stronger nature, then the technique with the superior nature will prevail. However, a technique with a weaker nature can overpower a technique with a stronger nature if the former is of a higher level.

Walking into the library Mokuhi would take to looking through the selections of books that were available to the local publicity of eye. Of course, she didn't exactly know what she was looking for either - she felt a need to come to the library itself to find a good read. However, eventually coming to a long row of books out of the many she could achieve with her height to look through the rows of labels lined up by various authors both known/named and none. She fell to a single book that caught her interest in whole. "Five Nature Chakra Transformations." She would repeat with a slight spark of interest in her tone as she raised her right hand and traced her index finger down the multicolored labeling that titled the book upon it's spine. "Mh." She would pry it free from the shelving and then open forth the first page as her eyes began to scan over the contents of the literature. Another page to follow afterwards, the book had been written by a blank author? odd she would proceed through the contents section before reaching Chapter 1: Katon.

"Katon." She would recite, looking over the details of the page as it bore into description towards the 'Fire' Element of Chakra which some individuals harbored. An elemental nature preformed through the control of breathing and sometimes emotion. Strong against Wind and very susceptible to Water, a natural cycle of strength and weakness. "Destructive, used most for it's offensive means sabotage operations." She would note to herself quietly. "Heavily balanced upon offensive power, lacking most with defensive. I should remember that."

She would flip the pages reading through till: Chapter 2: Futon

Once more looking over the next element she would read over it's design as well. "Futon." The next element in the book to go through and read, she would look over the details upon the pages through the chapter as it bore into description towards the 'Wind' Element of Chakra another elemental figure between individuals of the rest. An elemental nature preformed through the control of breathing. Strong against Lightning and very susceptible to Fire as a means to fuel the flame to the technique to fan it's power. However unlike the 'Fire' element it lacked the destructive power of it's better. "Precise, used mostly for assassination operations." She would nod thoughtfully with mental note, reading further into the element as she took her time to read the rest of the contents before moving onto the next chapter that would require her attention. "Heavily balanced upon precision, moderately offensive and defensive. I will remember that." With a given few pages left on the chapter, she searched out any remaining relative information through the pages to memorize before steadily coming to the next section of the book.

She would turn the final page through till: Chapter 3: Raiton

Looking into the next elemental figure in the book, she would come across "Raiton." as she pronounced it quietly to herself, fingers touching over the page quietly while she brought her nails along the words that she would trace to read quietly to her own interest. The next element in the book to go through and read, she would look over the details upon the pages through the chapter as it bore into description towards the 'Lightning' Element of Chakra. An elemental nature preformed through the control of firm and swift movement. Strong against Earth and weak to Wind as the current would throw the jutsu off in power and precision. However unlike the 'Wind' element it lacked the diversity of some balance, more weak in it's defensive means when preformed yet the conditions were read as special otherwise. "A balance between Power and Precision, lowly defensive." She would note with observation as she read through the text upon the page to herself quietly, taking in note and form to the guidelines of the element in question to memorize. "Conditional depending on the terms of the mission, but even out of it's own field of expertise still a valuable asset to any one person." She offered with further inspection.

Reading through the chapter to turn through the final page till: Chapter 4: Doton.

Looking into the next elemental figure in the book, she would come across "Doton." as she spoke the word, eyes would scan over the page in question till she found the section of material in the chapter she was looking for towards reading the next element in the book to go through and read, she would look over the details upon the pages through the chapter as it bore into description towards the 'Earth' Element of Chakra. An elemental nature preformed through the control of strong stance posture. Strong against Water and weak to Lightning as the pin-point accuracy for strong damage much like a spear-head aiming to puncture through armor would offer counter-balance to the Earth as striking it with not a slash but a thrust would break the foundation of the element. Lightning, being the most preferred. "Strongly Defensive, moderate offensive power." Mohuki would take to reading quietly through the pages as she took her time with the material this section seemed the least interesting between the other elements but otherwise every bit was something to keep note of for future reference. "Good for escort missions carrying vital V.I.P targets that a enemy would strike down." She offered with insight as she paused a moment, reading over the text further. "Also good for a temporary shelter from specific rain and weather conditions." She smiled lightly and turned the pages.

With the last pages detailing through the previous element she would reach the final chapter of interest in the book: Chapter 5: Suiton.

"Suiton." With a slight interest she would read into the final chapter of the book, slipping the pages for each one she completed in a patient manner while surfing through the material, she would look over the details upon the pages through the chapter as it bore into description towards the 'Water' Element of Chakra. An elemental nature preformed through the control of swift stance posture and breathing. Strong against Fire and weak to Earth as the dense minerals in the rubble also molded by chakra give a harder defensive for the Water element to try and counter act. "Heavily Conditional, yet a Jack of All Trades." She would remark, impressed over the use of the element that was brought with it but she would read down further into the material otherwise. "Provided use for most missions given near territory with enough water nearby to mold the chakra towards to manipulate it's current and produce the Jutsu. May be done from the body, with harmful effects if over-used." She would quirk a eyebrow, she wasn't sure if that was safe however. But she read through the pages as she reached the final conclusion of the chapter itself. After a few minutes, she would close the book and leave the library.

"I wonder what Chakra Nature I will have.." She offered lightly to herself with interest.

Making a Gift wrote:

O-nigiri (お握り or 御握り; おにぎり?), also known as o-musubi (お結び; おむすび?), nigirimeshi (握り飯; にぎりめし?) or rice ball, is a Japanese food made from white rice formed into triangular or oval shapes and often wrapped in nori (seaweed). Traditionally, an onigiri is filled with pickled ume (umeboshi), salted salmon, katsuobushi, kombu, tarako, or any other salty or sour ingredient as a natural preservative.

She found herself dwelling at the lake, it was a quiet day. She herself was surprised as well how far she had come in the short manner of time that she enrolled herself to the academy. Thankfully, would find herself becoming more engrossed in her studies from the classes she received on a daily basis along with the help of friends to ease the process of learning Jutsu as a whole. Watabe and Aion had been a big help to that, she felt slightly indebted to them as well, perhaps she should do something otherwise to make up for their time to sit down and explain some of the basic jutsu she was still learning. So she would walk to the kitchen, the apartment was not in the greatest shape and often enough they did not have guests over to consider cleaning up and catering for. Any mess she cleaned up, was made again usually once her father came in late at night from his drinking and gambling that they rarely had any guests to look forward towards aside the lady next door to them. But she always made some effort to do what her mother would have possibly done. "Be strong and cope with the changes, adapt." She treasured those words of advice to heart.

They didn't have much, but aside from that - they did keep the basics. Mokuhi often found herself receiving groceries or simply going to the store herself with the little money her father did bother to spare her way if his night was well, which was quite rare and at times she almost found him lucid and the same again. Yet - that was a stranger now to her. She would open the cupboard and drag out a bag, it was filled with rice and so she would drag it over towards the counter where it was big enough just to sit. Afterwards she would make sure the mesh strainer was ready, something else she would be using for the most part of everything while she walked over towards another cabinet and pried it free to see if there was a measuring cup inside and luckily enough she would find the one her mother used to use often when they had Onigiri as a snake in the mornings. Taking it out and then setting it on one of the washing sides of the sink she would run the water for now.

Working her way through the process of the steps, she took out a large sauce-pan to pour the rice into for now as she add a small film of warm water to coat it's surface and leave it to sit for awhile. Oddly enough, she felt 'happy' in some regards - working in the kitchen and fixing a gift for what was to be originally two friends she had decided that she would make a small bag of them to give out next time she met everyone up as a group in some place or another.
